Detailed Class Descriptions

  • Building Your Scene with Impact Play

Impact play: spanking, paddling, flogging, caning. Okay, you understand how to use all these activities for punishment and also for scening, but what about combining all of them and more for a sensual scene or a rough scene? This demo shows how to switch between these tools/toys and to add other sensations to help you develop a skill-set designed to build up your partner’s SM pain/pleasure. Learn to be creative – use a credit card as a knife? Use a butcher knife as a paddle?

The variables for impact play are similar regardless of the implement used. You’re concerned with rhythm, intensity, strike location, amount of the tool/toy you use, and so forth. You’re also concerned about learning how to read your partner’s reactions to your actions and knowing when to allow your partner to process the pain or when to push through to a new level. Come to this presentation and learn of many different kinds of impact implements that you can use, including your hands, fists, elbows and head.

  • Creating a Stable Authority-Imbalanced Relationship

Long-term authority-imbalanced relationships are not accidental; they require ongoing hard work. However, the areas that require thought and work are often subtle – you may not even think of them on your own. We’ll discuss topics such as aligning your core values, and discuss the ways that how you define yourself and your partner can affect your relationship, as well as a host of concepts/ideas for your consideration – all aimed at improving your relationship and supporting your own growth and the growth of your partner. (Attendees may wish to take notes.)

  • Why Are We Clashing Like This?

Exploring Common Communication Upsets

Relationships in our BDSM community are often more complex than marriages. The s-type is working 100% to please Master/Dom(me), and Master/Dom/me is endeavoring to guide and grow the slave/submissive. “Stuff” can often get in the way of clear communication. When communication gets in trouble, the relationship gets in trouble.

This workshop covers some “out-of-the-box” communication issues. We'll talk about conflicts arising from areas where differences between people are often hidden, such as how we communicate love, how time may be different for each partner, how upbringing may affect your current relationship, how we process information, and so forth.

Many tips and techniques are easy to explain and to learn, and provide eye-opening insights about ways you and your partner(s) communicate love. Similarly, couples/triads/etc often collide over issues that are not at all obvious to either party. (Attendees may wish to take notes.)

  • Using Protocols to Make Your World Special

Protocols are an outgrowth of your values. Some are tried-and-true, some you’ll have to create to suit your own relationship. You can create protocols that support your own version of a magical world and you can create protocols that solve challenges that come up within a relationship, such as getting back into Master or slave headspace after a long day at work. Protocols can also be used to help stabilize relationships that are being pulled back to the land of vanillas. We’ll discuss practical protocols, and attendees will have the opportunity to ask for help designing protocols to fit their particular needs. (Attendees may wish to take notes.)

  • Let's Think This Through

This class will reexamine authority-based relationships. We’ll go over some confusing definitions and preconceptions to try to make some sense of our culture.

In our world, we’re told that there are Tops and bottoms, Dominants and submissives, Masters and slaves, and Owners and property. While some fit pretty easily into those roles, others find that they don’t fit so comfortably into popularly accepted descriptions of these roles. If you’re finding that popular role definitions aren’t serving your needs as a couple, come to this class and explore ways of blending a bit of D/M and a bit of s/s to enhance/enrich the possibilities in your relationship. After all, what we do is about relationship first and SM second, right? We'll also be discussing various general ways of interacting between the D-type and the s-type, including working with dominant slaves.

  • Grappling with Some Hidden Elements in a Power Exchange Relationship

Certain words describe concepts, that in turn describe key aspects of power-imbalanced relationships (Owner/property, Master/slave, Dominant/submissive, etc). When there is disagreement between the D-type and the s-type regarding these concepts or how to fulfill them, destabilizing stresses begin to surface.

Topics include: management issues; decision-making; love in relation to obedience and punishment; fear; punishment and punishment systems; and service.

This interactive session will explore some of these elements in an effort to discuss ways to ensure and sustain a stable relationship. (Attendees may wish to take notes.)

  • How to Navigate a Formal Evening

You’ve been invited to something fancy – perhaps as complex as a High Protocol Dinner or perhaps it’s going out to dinner with your rather stuffy in-laws. You’d love to go, but you are concerned that you’d feel out of place. What to do, what to do? Answer: come to this presentation.

We’ll start with how to accept the invitation, move on to clothing, when to arrive, and what you can do to prepare to fit in socially. We’ll spend time discussing how to manage your cocktails and appetizers and then dwell on table etiquette – how to hold wine glasses, how to manage your napkin, and how to hold your utensils. By the end of the workshop, you should be able to welcome your next invitation to a fancy party – or be prepared to give one!

This workshop combines practical and esoteric information to elevate your social game. These skills enable you to have a fun and relaxing experience regardless of the formality of the setting, even an "executive dining interview," should that be relevant in your life.
